In the home care centre Brughelen VDVZ architects have designed a demo of the care studio appartments that will be built on several locations in The Netherlands and needed feedback from users.
P5 was asked to carry out a usability research in this demo studio on the design of the kitchen, bathroom and the room divider. Habitants of the home care centre and independent living elderly have expressed their opinion about the apartment, while walking around and trying out the features of cupboards, doors, sink, shower and toilet.
The large list of improvements has lead to re-design of the care studio.
After the re-design the demo studio was visited by more elderly habitants and their relatives to make them experience the coming changes of their home situation and to check if all the improvements were made in a proper way. Next to this the usability for intensive care by professionals was checked.
Within the Infraplus concept of VDVZ-architects several studio’s are integrated in the building of new home care centres.
