Client: Vilans

Vilans, knowledge organisation for care, produces publications on safety, quality and usability of mobility products and transport for persons with reduced mobility. For specific projects consultancies are commissioned to carry out desk research and facilitate working group sessions.

P5 was involved in many projects for the GQ approval mark, the LuQy label and the Code for Safe Transport of Wheelchair Users (in Dutch Code VVR) of Vilans, formerly KBOH.

In the Code VVR guidelines are formulated for the safe transport of wheelchairs and electric scooters in mini buses for ‘all the links of the transport chain’ – wheelchair user, assistant, mini bus driver, transport organisation, mini bus supplier, wheelchair supplier and organisation which indicates for/provides assistive technology.

In connection to international standards, requirements for safe and comfortable usage were formulated by desk research and interviews and focus group sessions with experts, transport organisations, industry and users.

This information is used for purchasing/tendering processes of municipalities, insurance companies and care centres. More and more this information is also used by users themselves, who receive a personal budget to make an individual choice from the large supply of assistive technology for mobility.

In 2008 Vilans has updated manuals for the minibus driver and wheelchair user. Next to this manuals for municipalities and transport organizations are published. P5 was involved in the making of these publications. The manuals (in Dutch) can be downloaded from www.veiligvervoer.nl.
