Packaging for InternetPlusBellen KPN

the new packaging

Client: Koninklijke KPN/Producthouse (The Hague)

KPN offers ‘InternetPlusBellen’ as a service. Customers receive a DIY set to install the hardware components. The objective for the redesign of the packaging was to improve ergonomics so customers can easily install this service.

As a first step P5 conducted in home observations to explore the problems consumers face during installation. Based on this research the new concept was developed in two versions by Flex/the INNOVATIONLAB in cooperation with Do Company.
A prototype of this new concept was used by customers during installation at home and again customers were observed and interviewed.

Based on the findings one concept was chosen as the final solution. Some fine-tuning had to be done resulting in the product used at this moment. In the new package a folder is included showing the installation plan in 4 steps.

After opening the outer box, the folder becomes visible. On the inside the folder features a graphical quick reference guide and an extended handbook with installation CD.

The different colours on this plan correspond with the colours on the plugs, cords and sockets, making installation very straightforward. In addition an elaborate manual is available for more detailed information. The visual plan easily and directly links to any specific step and piece of information in the manual. Compared to the old version, the text of the new manual has been importantly shortened, shows many illustrations and a bright lay-out.
